What did John see in his vision?

Apostle John saw a horrible vision in Revelation 20:12 (AMP)

“And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the Book of Life, and the dead were judged according to what they had done as written in the books [that is, everything done while on Earth].”

There is a lot to unpack but to be brief. Everyone born will stand before Yahweh and be judged for their life, good and bad. Those standing at the Great White Throne in the passage of Scripture are the non-believers who will be judged for their deeds on Earth from the beginning to the end of time. They will be cast into the realm of the dead Hades, or Hell, for eternity, along with Satan, Antichrist (beast), and the false prophet (known as the unholy trinity). (Rev 20:10)

The books will be opened. There are many books (Book of Remembrance, Book of Sins, Book of Life), to name a few, but if your name is missing from the Book of Life, you are doomed forever. The only way to prevent your soul from going to Hell is to know Yahweh, repent of your sins, and believe in Almighty God’s Son, Messiah Jesus. Read (Revelation 3:5; Psalms 69:28; Philippians 4:3)
